Beetroot Hot Chocolate Recipe from the Cookbook
I think we can all relate to that moment of panic on Sunday evenings -- Shoot! I'm not even tired and I have to be awake in like 7 hours for work *insert crying emoji here*! Ugh. Monday morning anxiety is such a real thing, especially if you have school or work to be at bright and early!
Sometimes, sleeping in on Saturdays and Sundays can tend to derail your weekly routine, resulting in panic and lack of sleep, not to mention caffeine abuse. Caffeine (coffee, specifically) is such a tricky thing. Some people seem to like the effect it has on them, wearing off and actually helping them sleep that night -- basically, utilizing the coffee crash for good instead of evil. Others, feel like caffeine has an insane effect on them, resulting in anxiety, stress, shakiness, insomnia and even panic attack symptoms. Caffeine tolerance is fully up to your own body's wiring, and you may not feel any effects at all!
Personally, I enjoy a morning latte as my main staple for breakfast (recipe in the Cookbook), and it's loaded with healthy fats, helping in the way my body handles the acidity and caffeine in the brown stuff. Even consuming it with other nutritional components mixed in, my stomach has a tendency to be really sensitive from time to time --- and that's when I switch to something lighter! Sometimes, your stomach (or even your brain) needs a rest from the good-ole' brew, and usually kicking the stuff is easier said than done.
I haven't fully ditched coffee for more than a month in over four years, so I'm probably due for a reset soon. If you've been considering testing how deep your coffee addiction runs, or maybe you just want a light bedtime snack to try out after dinner, give this latte a whirl!
Try this Beetroot Hot Chocolate recipe in the place of your morning latte, or maybe even afternoon snack!
Beetroot Hot Chocolate
Makes 1 serving
1 cup canned coconut milk or almond milk
2 pitted dates or 1 tbsp coconut sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
1 dash sea salt
1 tsp coconut oil
2 tsp almond butter
2 tbsp beetroot powder
Throw all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until dates are thoroughly combined.
If using an espresso machine: pour milk mixture into a steaming pitcher and use the steam wand to slowly trap air, creating small bubbles. Steam until the pitcher is 1, 2 — HOT when touched.
If using a frother: throw the milk mixture in the frother and wait it out.
If using stovetop: in a small pot, whisk the milk mixture rapidly until bubbles form.
Pour in a mug and top with sea salt and coconut sugar sprinkle!
