Episode #31 | My Journey with Perioral Dermatitis

Hey everyone! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’re probably familiar with my six-month struggle with Perioral Dermatitis.

In short, Perioral Dermatitis is defined as a dry, red rash that is sometimes flakey and itchy around the mouth, nose & chin. It can occasionally spread upwards toward the eyes

I discovered through sharing my journey that many of my readers have done form of this or facial eczema as well. I wanted to share what I’ve been doing and what has worked for me.

The products I’m using currently are the Osmia Black Clay Facial Soap and I alternate between Erbaviva Sunscreen and Avene Cicalfate Cream. I also mention food intolerance testing so stay tuned for my collaboration with Everlywell and we can take a 96-food test together — there will be a discount code for you!

My rash November 2018. It first appeared as this burning chin patch.

It began spreading to above my mouth around December.

January. It was hurting so bad and would flare up if I was wearing makeup.

Started Elidel and it got a lot better at first...

But when I would drink wine it would come RIGHT back. With a vengeance!!!

My skin about two weeks ago. My doctor took me off Elidel I believe in early February (can’t remember). After getting off the cream, it began spreading to my eyes and eyebrows (tiny patches). My skin flared up again but then calmed way down after I eliminated garlic and bananas (listen to the podcast!) I have a bit of scarring from the rash but otherwise, my skin is clear!

My skin on the morning I’m publishing this! So clear. Some scarring but at least it’s cleared up!
